The Meeting of Moonchild and Sunflower
(Moonchild is a way of expressing a deep appreciation for the mystical moon, the natural world, and the seasons of life.
Sunflowers channel the energy of the sun, promote healing, and bring joy even during times of sorrow.)
Moon's got your back this morning.
A crescent against your spine, she's protecting you from losing will.
She's got your front too, pouring antacid onto the fear burning in your chest.
Moonchild.
She grows sunflowers from her crown by the end of September.
She picks you a yellow flower.
She bestows you with reminders:
“Be cautious in your wild loving.”
“Start your day with sustenance, be it music, food, or silence.”
“Be brave.”
“The haven you seek is the same haven bursting from the galaxy of many wombs.
You know this but you will forget.”
Moonchild always returns
smelling of blood and resilience,
beside you when you wake wrapped in sheets saturated with doubt
when you unravel and stand in a room that's dark and too cold.
The youthful moon shines even when you can't see her.
She nurtures, nonetheless, spooned against your bare self
implanting you with the seeds of sunflowers.
Each will grow in their own way, at their own time.
You slide into your first sweater of the season.
You walk to the kitchen, eat a handful of blackberries, and fill a pot with water for tea.
You sink into the warmth of wool, into the warmth of the light growing in your skin
into the warmth of boiling water
into the earthy aroma of black tea
and the sweet bitterness of berries.
and for a moment
you remember all the guidance you've ever received
when the length of night and day meet each other.
